Aztec print & hair wraps.

Aztec pullover - Pacsun, cross necklace - thrifted

Just a quick post today...  I got this sweater yesterday - i saw it in the store about a month or two ago, but didn't want to pay $50 it, until i saw it on a customer at work and thought, 'right, that looks so awesome on her, i'm getting it!' and voila, it's mine!  Turns out it was 30% off, so i got this & a t-shirt for around $40 including tax. :)  I tweeted about this already, but i am loving Pacsun.  It has a bit of a reputation as being 'skater' & 'middle school', but i really like it.  I'd say it's more of a laid back & fun style, not chic & sophisticated or anything, but i think it has a little something for everyone.

Faye posted recently (love her blog, it's so gorgeous & girly!) about hair wraps & braids and i was inspired to do a bit of my own!  I followed the tutorial that she linked and although it was a bit hard to get started, it was easy once i got the hang of it.  Since this was the first one i've done, it's not very good!  Next one i do will definitely be in different colors (not really loving the purple + gold combo) and will choose a strand of hair in a different location - this one is in a bit of an awkward spot.  I put a wooden bead with an L on it as well, kinda like it actually!

Had a nice two days off work, not ready to go back tomorrow, haha. :/
Hope you're all well. ♥

Ombré Hair, Part II

As i've mentioned before, my hair and me have quite an up & down relationship.  I hate it one minute, love it the next, etc etc.  When i'm going through a phase where i'm really not pleased with it, i usually semi-permanently dye it or snip some bangs or something along those lines.  I've ombre'd my hair before (post on that here) but i suppose i just got sick of it and semi-permanently dyed my hair again, which i think stained the bleached part of my hair as it didn't go back to the way it was.

On a whim, i bought the same highlighting kit i used last time & ombre'd it again!  I'm so pleased with it and love it even more than before.  The main difference between bleaching it this time to last time was that i used aluminum foil to wrap the ends of my hair so the bleach would do it's magic a bit more.  I also tried to make it a bit more of a gradual fade rather than a stark contrast between the lighter and darker hair - i did this by putting more bleach by the crown of my head & around my face.
If you want to know how i did it exactly or you're thinking about doing it yourself, but you're a bit hesistant, watch this tutorial.  She's fab & her hair looks lovely, and the video is actually really insightful. :)

A lot of people in the ol' blogosphere are saying they're sick of ombre hair or that it's not as 'cool' anymore because everyone has it, but i don't care!  I love it and i think it's really nice for summer.  I haven't seen anyone around where i live with it, so i don't think it's a big deal... and even if a lot of people did have it by me, i don't think i would really care to be honest.
I'm quite proud of it and i don't think i'll be sick of it for a while. :)

Five Things

Inspired by (well, stolen from!) Emily's "Five Things" post :)
This week has been really hectic with school and my family and everything, but this post will be focusing on much happier things!  These are five things that have made me a bit more cheerful this week.  I wanted to include Mumford & Sons in this post but i literally just did a post featuring them!  Haha, they really have made this week more tolerable though.
So here we go ♥:
1. Slippers!  These may not be the most attractive 'things' you can put on your feet, but they are insanely comfy & warm - and for my abnormally cold feet, these are an essential for wearing around the house :).  (Although i admit to wearing them in public once or twice :P).

2. Tweak: Growing Up On Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff.  I started re-reading this book a couple days ago, and i love it.  It's a memoir, and it's so raw and honest.  Once i start reading it, i just can't put it down.  Definitely a must-read!  You can read more about it here.

 3. DIY button earrings!  I did a post on these a long, long time ago, but i've recently rediscovered them and have been wearing them with everything.  They really add a lovely detail to any outfit and remind me of something Jennie would like - probably because of the anchors :).

 4. Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin.  I got a sample of this through a swap i did and kind of put of trying it out for a while.  I decided to give it a go a few days ago and i love it!  It's basically the same shade as their eyeshadow "Sin", but it's a base at the same time so you can skip a step!  Really love this, makes me want to try out some different bases (such as MAC paintpots or Benefit creaseless cream shadows!).

5. Re-organizing my room.  There's something about rearranging things and finding a home for bits floating around my room that i find really relaxing.  I'm secretly obsessed with all things storage & organization, i'm not sure why!  This is a little glimpse of what's inside my closet, i'm planning on doing a closet tour video when i get the chance!

What has been picking you up lately?

DIY: Ombré Hair.

Ombre hair is such a huge trend among celebrities (Drew Barrymore & Rachel Bilson look gorgeous with their ombre'd locks!) and bloggers this season - i first saw it on Lily's blog LLYMLRS, then on Rumi's blog Fashion Toast - both looking absolutely fab.  Since i'd been getting more & more tired with my hair, i felt the need to spice it up a bit.  I didn't want to cut it as i quite like the length & i didn't want to semi-permanent dye it again, so what better than to dive into ombre?

This is actually my second attempt at achieving ombre hair (the first dye i tried using didn't actually contain bleach -_-), and i'm really happy i decided to try it one more time - despite it being a bit tedious!
ombre1
I used L'Oreal Paris La Petite Frost in H75 Chardonnay for attempt numero dos.  It was only about $6 at Walmart - deal, right?

This kit comes with a cap & hook for creating highlights, but i just chucked those in the garbage right away as i wouldn't be using them :).  I was really scared that my hair would turn more "frosty" than blonde (i have an intense fear of frosted tips), so i did a strand test to see how it would turn out first.  I took a good amount of hair from behind my ear, sectioned it off, and put the bleach on.  I kept it on for a good 20 minutes, rinsed out the bleach, and tried to dry it off a bit to see the result.  It was a bit darker than i wanted it to be (but not frosty at all, yay), so i knew that i'd have to leave the bleach on for a bit longer when doing all my hair.

ombre2
I decided where i wanted the ombre to start, then slathered on the bleach.  I left it on for about 30 minutes & rinsed it out.  Since ombre hair's supposed to be even lighter at the tips, i applied more to the ends of my hair - left that on for about 25 minutes & then rinsed it out again.  It wasn't as light as i wanted to be yet, so i had another go with just the ends again.  I only left it on for about 10ish minutes.  The highlighting kit came with a shampoo, so i shampooed my hair (it's super moisturizing so i didn't need a conditioner), and let my hair air dry for the night.

I woke up and.....voila!  Kind-of-ombre-hair :)
ombre3
I'm actually really happy with the results i got, and i might even go blonder at the ends yet :).  If you're thinking about ombre-ing your hair - go for it!  I'm SO glad i did!  The only thing that's a bit annoying is i feel like i can't really pull of darker makeup.  Maybe i'm just going through a i-suck-at-applying-makeup phase, but it just looks strange :/  It's the same with lip colors as well.  The ends of my hair don't feel dried out or anything - i was expecting them to be as i slathered soo much bleach on them, but yay :D

I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair too, which is always nice!  ♥
ombre4

Overall
♥ Ombre hair gets five gold stars from me :) - i absolutely adore the beach-y feel of it.
♥ Definitely give ombre hair a go if you were debating weather to do it or not!
♥ Check out some other lovely ombre-d ladies - Jennie, Zoe, & Nicole!

My Favorite Jewelry Pieces ♥

This post is just going to be on my favorite jewelry pieces in my collection.  I'll put a little description of each & i'll try to be brief as to not bore you all! :)
I also want to add quickly that i hit 300 followers yesterday!  That's honestly insane & i love each and every one of you, i really do :).  Cyber-hugs? :D ♥

This is an overview of my faves :)
I love everything girly and quirky, and i gravitate towards gold the most.  I love pearls and cameos, and i love sparkle.  I absolutely adore anything vintage as well, and a lot of my favorites are from my auntie & grandma ♥

Let's get onto it!

-

NECKLACES
1. The pendant on this necklace is from the Washington National Cathedral & was one like $2!  I put it on a chain i had & i bring this necklace everywhere with me - like a good luck charm i suppose :)
2. This heart locket necklace was a gift from my parents, it has a longer chain & i just think it's so pretty.
3. I felt the need to include a statement necklace & this is it!  I got this from my aunt.  It's massive (which i love hehe) & i rarely wear it, but i think it's a really cool piece.
4. This necklace is from Charlotte Russe & i got it after i saw a photo of Demi Lovato wearing a similar necklace (because i'm lame ;).  It adds a bit of interest to a would-be boring outfit :)
5. This necklace was a gift from another aunt & it's really subtle, but very pretty.  It says 'dream' on it, which might be a bit tacky to some people, but i actually love it - it also has two little crystal charms.
6. This is a cameo locket from Forever 21 - it has a chain, but it broke =/.  It's still a fave & it came with bow and rose charms - super cute!
7. This is a vintage pendant from my grandma & i think it's absolutely gorgeous, i prefer this over my Forever 21 one :)

-

RINGS
L-R
1. This owl ring from PacSun is really quirky & pretty and i always get compliments on it!
2. I got this rose ring from my sister just yesterday, and it's already one of my faves!  It makes my hands look feminine & i just adore it hehe :)
3. I got this super beat-up ring from an estate sale - it's so sparkly & unique, and i love it, missing rhinestones & all :)

-

BRACELETS
L - R & no, i don't wear these all at once ;)
1. The "Laura" bracelet my friend made for me :)  I adore it & it fits my wrists perfectly!
2. This pearl bracelet i got from Boston Store is all one piece & it used to have a flower on it, but it fell off within 24 hours of getting it =/ - still pretty & feminine :)
3. This dolphin hinge bracelet is so pretty!  I got it from Goodwill & i always get people approaching me & asking if they can try it on..haha :)
4. I just got this last bracelet from Summerfest last Thursday & i've been wearing it since.  I just love it :)  Reminds me of that amazing night whenever i look at it ♥

-

BROOCHES/PINS
1. I call this lovely lady on the left my "Lady GaGa" pin!  I absolutely lovelovelove it.  I got it from my aunt & i can really spice up a plain blazer or sweater!
2. The bumblebee pin on the top right i got from Goodwill & i really love it - it's so cute!
3. The crown pin i just think is really pretty & yeah :)

-

EARRINGS
1. My dad brought these pearl earrings back from China and gave them to me as a gift when i was younger.  I absolutely love them ♥.
2 & 3. I made both pairs of these earrings myself out of buttons :) They can both add a little bit of interest & quirkiness to an outfit.
4. I got these earrings from my aunt - they're clip-on, which can give my ear / head region a bit of an ache, but they are absolutely gorgeous.
5. I got these rose earrings from Forever 21 in a set with #7, and they are super pretty & girly :)
6. These ladybug earrings from Claire's are super old, but soo adorable!
7. These are my go-to earrings.  They always, always in my ears, unless i take them out to put other ones in of course :)

DIY: Inspiration Book :)

This post is a bit different than my other posts, but it still has to do with beauty, fashion, and blogging :)

I think we can all agree that everyone can get a little uninspired sometimes.  We do things, and as the days pass, it can get to be a bit monotonous - we all need a pick-me-up sometimes.  So what i've done was made an inspiration book!

I took an old two inch binder, a whole lot of plastic sheet protectors, scissors, old magazines, and a few printed out photos from the internet, and this is what came out!
If i'm feeling down, i may pick this DIY inspiration book up and flick through it a bit.  It reminds me of the reasons why i do what i do :).

The main reason i decided to make this book was not because i was in need of a bit of inspiration, actually - it was because i had an excess of magazines hanging out in my closet!  I couldn't bring myself to throw these all away, so i ripped out the pages i liked the most & put them into this book :)
Witness the plethora! :O

The first page has pictures of New York City because i wish to live there someday & at the time that i started this i was dead set on going hehe :) ♥.

Here are some more examples of pages this book contains!
You'll find:
♥ quotations
♥ pages from editorials, spreads
♥ a lot of pages from Urban Outfitters catalogs
♥ miscellaneous photos from the internet
♥ eye candy aka pictures of cute boys :)
Enjoy!

What inspires you?

May Faves! ♥

It's that time again!  Time to share with what products we've all been loving this month :)  The year's going by incredibly fast - we're already on the verge of summer!  Goodness... i'm afraid to blink because if i do, it'll be time to put up the Christmas decorations!
I degress...so with the sun showing it's face a bit more and with the air being more hot & humid, the products i choose to use everyday is changing, and i'm also using more products to keep my skin healthy and looking great!  This will be a long post, so i apologize in advance....Let's get onto it!

-

1. Secret Clinical Strength Waterproof deodorant
Sure, this may be a bit embarrassing to put in this post, but i don't care because i have been totally loving it!  I have tried the regular Clinical Strength, but it doesn't work as well as the waterproof version, which makes sense.. ew, right?  Haha.  I'm just going to go straight into talking about sweat i guess, that's the only way to really say how effective this product is!  Ever since entering my teen years my hormones have gone crazy, and a side effect of that is sweating.  So that, along with the hot weather, is just a recipe for embarrassment & being uncomfortable.  Ever since using this, i have noticed that my underarm area is significantly drier & smelling fresh!  I believe i found my new favorite deo :)

2. Coppertone Oil Free Sunscreen Lotion
With the sunlight beating down, it's extremely important to protect your skin.  I have been using this sunscreen since last summer, and i really love it for everyday use.  It has an SPF of 30, which isn't too high, but again, it's great for everyday use - however, if i were going to the beach or planning to be outside all day, i would definately use a sunscreen with a higher SPF.  Since my skin is really sensitive to fragrances (esp. in lotions), this is a fragrance free lotion, but it still has that amazing, summery smell of sunscreen :)

3. Lush Vanilla in the Mist soap
You might've seen that i bought this delicious soap in a recent haul (link here), and since then i've gotten to use it quite a bit :)  I'll be writing up a full review on this product soon, but i wanted to include it in my May Faves because it's absolutely divine.  The scent is super warm vanilla, and almost coffee - it's incredible.  It's also quite moisturizing, which for a solid soap isn't something you come across too often.  I absolutely adore this product ♥.  Look out for a full review!

-

1. Clinique High Impact Mascara in 01 Black
I did a review on this way back in the day, i kinda stopped using it since i discovered CoverGirl Lash Blast, but i've since rediscovered it.  I still use my Lash Blast, but i use this as on top of it, on the outer corner lashes - it really gives my lashes even more length & volume, and creates more of a cat-eye effect.  Love!

2. Double-ended eye brush
Whilst walking through a cosmetic aisle in Walmart looking for a blending brush, i came across some Revlon brushes, as well cheaper ones - of course i went for the cheaper ones.  I'm not sure what brand this one is exactly because the the label came off of the packaging... but if you spot the Revlon brushes in Walmart, i'm sure you'll find these right next to them.  I already own the MAC 217 brush, which is great for applying color to the crease & blending, but i wanted to find another one to use for when i'm using a look with multiple colors.  This brush is great for blending, i still prefer my 217, but this is a great brush - reminds me of the MAC 224!

3. CoverGirl Cheekers Bronzer in 104 "Golden Tan"
Before i got my Bare Minerals Warmth, i was running low on my favorite Clinique Bronzer ("Sunkissed"), so i went to Walmart (i'm noticing a pattern here...) & tried to look for a nice, inexpensive bronzer.  I landed on this CoverGirl bronzer, and i really like it!  I'll put a little swatch of it above here, it looks like the name sounds, goldie-brownie, but it comes up more orangey-brown on the skin - kind of annoying, but you can always blend it out a bit :)

4. Burt's Bees Beeswax Lipbalm
I'm pretty sure you've all either tried this stuff, or at least heard of it - with good reason too, it's really nice!  I have been using these for years, but went off it a couple months ago because i was trying to use up some other lip products.  Since i've used them all up, i repurchased this & have fallen back in love :)
So minty & fresh feeling on the lips!

-

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in "Mad Hatter" (Original name: "Twice Baked")
I absolutely adore this color.  I use this in the outer corner & blend it into the crease, and it looks really nice!  I've tried using up other colors, from Urban Decay & other brands, and i always come back to this.  There are glitters in it, but it really isn't noticeable once applied - still a nice little touch :)

-

1. DIY Sailor Button Earrings
So i was having a crafty day a couple weeks ago, as you may know (I did a blogpost on it!  Link here :), and on that crafty day, i made these earrings out buttons & old earrings!  I wore them so much this month, they go with soo many outfits!  Love, love, love - and they were free, eeeee!  Guilt-free accessories :)

2. Sally Hansen Teflon Tuff 10 Day Nail Color in 06 "Violet Frost"
This gorgeous color has been on my nails for the majority of the month!  It's a very pretty, uhh... violet frosty color?  Haha :).  I rediscovered this baby while taking photos for my recent nail polish collection post (link herezzz).  I received many compliments on it - that's always nice, right? :)  The formulation is so-so, probably because i've had this for years & years - it's still a very pretty & somewhat easy to work with polish.

Say cupcake five times fast if you actually made it through this post!  Hahaha :O
What have you ladies been loving this month?

FOTD: Girly Nautical - Lush Times & an Award!

I feel like this posts contains waaay too many photos of me...hope i don't seem conceited :O

So as you may have read in my previous post or on Twitter (same on you if you don't follow me! Click here if you don't already! ;), i dyed my hair!  I'm still loving it & i've really enjoyed styling it :)  I thought i'd show you all one of my favorite looks i've had this week.
I felt so girly wearing this & actually had an "i feel pretty today" kinda day ♥  I wore my sailor shirt (i haven't worn this in for.ev.er.) which is fitted & very flattering and i wore my anchor earrings to match which i actually made myself, as well as a bow i made.  My hair is messy & looked better IRL than these pictures show..haha oh well.
I feel like my FOTDs are pointless because i pretty much do the same makeup look everyday..i just thought i'd post this anyway.

DIY: Earrings, Hair Accessories, & Phone Case :)

This past weekend i was inspired by Lisa & Katie to make cute little things to wear and to put around my room.  I was feeling super crafty & ended up making some things i'm quite proud of :)
Crafting is a fantastic alternative to going out and buying jewelry & hair accessories - because it saves you money and it's also a fun hobby to do over the weekend or whenever you fancy :)

I made an assortment of bows, flowers, & a lone strawberry for my hair as well as earrings.

How i made the cuties!:
I made the bows out of ribbons & hot glued clips that i already owned to the back.
I made the flower clips for my hair by snipping off flowers from this fake bouquet we had around the house & hot glued them to clips.
I made the strawberry clip out of felt.  I sewed the main red part to the green stem, and then sewed little bits with white thread on the red part to look like seeds.  I then hot glued the finished strawberry to a clip.
To make the earrings i found buttons that my mom keeps in a huge container (it's a massive collection from over the years) and found matching ones.  I then hot glued the backs (more toward the top so it kind of hangs off the ear more) to earrings i don't wear anymore :)

-

ignore my cracked Crackberry :O
Oh!  And i also made this little phone case that i was originally just going to make into a plushie, but discovered my phone would fit in it, so i chopped off what would've been his ears & just sewed around the body, leaving the top open to slide my phone in :).  I wanna name him!  I just can't think of a name...my phone's name is Daisy so it would be cute if they kind of went well together!  Suggestions?  :)

A Bath Fit for a Queen :)

After reading Darling Heart's post on a milk and honey bath fit for Cleopatra herself, i was intrigued and did a bit more research!  I ended up brewing myself up a bath that very night and although the water was scalding hot resulting in me draining most of it & adding cold water (therefore it wasn't as luxurious and filled with milk & honey :/), it was actually quite nice.
I'll have to try it again, but checking the temperature of the water before adding any ingredients :)

Here's what i used in the bath! - common household ingredients really :) :
♥ a packet of Equate Oatmeal Bath Treatment (optional, i just thought it would treat my skin even more :)
♥ a bit more than a cup of milk
♥ lots & lots of honey (about a cup)
♥ essential oils - i personally didn't use them because i don't have any, but it would be nice to use these to add a little delicious fragrance to the bath!

Since milk is used in the bath, i was concerned that i would smell of spoiled milk or something (know what i mean? ha), but i couldn't smell a hint of milk!  Yaaaay.  Just thought i'd let you girls know in case you were wondering like me :)

While the water was running and the water was about half full, i added all the ingredients - milk first.

Oatmeal next.  You'll probably have to crumble the oatmeal a bit more once it's in the water, so it's not so clumpy and lumpy (lolz).

Last but definately not least, honey.  Mmmm!  The honey is a bit harder to get out of the glass than the milk & oatmeal (obviously Laura...geez ha), so i simply ran it under the tap & poured that into the bath.

This is what the bath should look like after you've added everything :)  All you need to do is pop in & relax!
I have a recipe on how to take the perfect bath HERE if you want to read that, i promise you'll love it ♥♥

I really recommend you ladies to try this bath out yourself!  It's nice not going out and spending money on bath goodies when you can just make your own nourishing bath with ingredients you already own :)  If Cleopatra bathed in milk & honey, there must be something amazing to it right?

My Dry & Chapped Lip Musts!

I got a question about what i use to heal dry & chapped lips on one of my previous posts and i thought it was a fantastic idea for a post!

I would say i'm lucky to not have extremely dry & flaky lips, but Winter weather and cosmetic products on them can really do some damage.  When i was little i used to have extremely chapped lips but now that i take care of them more, i don't have so much of a problem *knock on wood* :)

One of the most essential things of course is a lip balm or chapstick:
Carmex
Carmex is a pretty popular brand here in the US (i'm not sure about other countries.  I use this product at night after i'm done with my routine - washing my face, brushing & flossing my teeth, and putting my retainer in & such (haha..retainer :).  It's really thick & goes on very smoothly, but i find that it takes a looong time to sink in - which is why i only use it at night.  Sometimes i'll even wake with it still on the surface of my lips, which kinda grosses me out a bit..not sure why!
I would also say it's not amazingly moisturizing, but it does a adequate job :)

Burt's Bees
Burt's Bees is another really common brand in the US, with good reason!  Burt's Bees chapstick is really moisturizing, goes on smoothly, absorbs fairly quickly, & if you get the original flavor, it makes your lips feel really refreshed (it contains menthol).  The flavor i have contains pomegranate oil & has a bit of a tint to it (which is pretty sheer), hence different color cap.  I have to say i prefer the original kind to the one pictured just because of the scent/flavor, i don't like the scent of the pomegranate one at all & it's not as refreshing.
I carry my Burt's Bees in my bag (note the beat-up label :) and apply it before i apply lipstick in the morning & throughout the day as i feel necessary.

Along with moisturizing lip balms & chapsticks, an lip exfoliator is an essential.  Just like you exfoliate the skin on your face or body, it's important exfoliate your lips.  I saw that Lush came out with lip scrubs, but i'm really disappointed that they aren't sold in the US :/
I didn't want to spend money on an exfoliator, so i do as anyone would do..i Googled it!  I ended up finding an amazing DIY recipe for a sugar lip scrub by Elle, Allthatglitters on YouTube, (link to that video HERE).  The only two ingredients are olive oil & sugar, which everyone has in their kitchen!  It really works, it's inexpensive, & i love it :)
I do this once or twice a week.  It's especially great if you wear lipstick because exfoliating will get rid of all the flaky skin, letting the product apply smoothly & look better.

Extra tips
♥ drink plenty of water - you've most likely heard 100s of times how important to drink water & stay hydrated it is, but it truly is & water really does wonders for the skin
♥ keep a chapstick or lip balm handy!  i feel completely lost without one in my bag :)
♥ during the Summer, find a lip balm with an SPF in it, the sun can burn lips too!
♥ don't lick your lips!  it may feel moisturizing, but it actually drys them!
